Terms of service
Last updated: August 11, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the U.S. Shopify store operated by Quarto Publishing Group USA Inc. at shopus.quarto.com and any purchase you make through the store.
These Terms apply only to our U.S. Shopify store. They do not apply to quarto.com, quartoknows.com, or other Quarto websites operated separately or jointly with other Quarto group companies.
By using the store, creating an account, or placing an order, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the store.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to place an order. If you are under 18, you may use the store only with involvement and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. The store is not directed to children under 13.
Accounts
If you create an account, you must provide accurate information and keep your login credentials confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend or close accounts where necessary to protect the store, our customers, or our rights.
Products, Pricing, and Availability
We try to display accurate product information, pricing, images, availability, and descriptions. We do not guarantee that all information is complete, current, or error-free.
We may correct errors, update information, change or discontinue products, refuse orders, or cancel orders where products are unavailable, information is inaccurate, fraud is suspected, payment fails, or these Terms are violated.
Prices are shown in U.S. dollars. Taxes, shipping charges, and fees will be shown at checkout where required.
Orders and Payment
Your order is an offer to purchase. We may accept or reject orders in our discretion. If we cancel an order after payment has been processed, we will refund the canceled portion.
Payments are processed by Shopify, payment processors, payment method providers, or other third-party payment services. We do not intend to store full payment card numbers on our own systems.
Shipping, Returns, and Refunds
Orders are fulfilled by Hachette Book Group and shipped through applicable carriers. Shipping is governed by our Shipping Policy. Returns, refunds, damaged items, and incorrect items are governed by our Returns & Refunds Policy.
Delivery dates are estimates unless expressly stated otherwise. We are not responsible for delays caused by carriers, weather, address errors, system outages, labor disruptions, or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
Title and risk of loss pass to you when products are delivered to the shipping carrier, except where applicable law requires otherwise. As a customer service matter, we may assist with eligible lost, damaged, or incorrect shipments, at our discretion.
If your package appears lost, delayed, missing, or damaged, contact customerservice@quarto.com with your order number. For damaged items, please contact us within 30 days of receipt and include photos of the item and packaging if available.
We may offer a replacement, refund, or other resolution depending on carrier records, product availability, order history, and the circumstances, or we may direct you to the carrier to seek a remedy.
Intellectual Property
All store content, including text, graphics, logos, book covers, images, designs, product information, software, and other materials, is owned by or licensed to Quarto, its affiliates, licensors, authors, illustrators, publishers, or business partners.
You may use the store for personal, non-commercial shopping purposes only. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, modify, sell, resell, scrape, crawl, harvest, or exploit store content without our written permission.
User Content
If the store allows reviews, comments, photos, feedback, or other submissions, you are responsible for what you submit. By submitting content, you grant Quarto a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, transferable license to use, reproduce, display, distribute, modify, publish, and otherwise use it in connection with our store, products, marketing, customer service, and business operations.
You must not submit content that is unlawful, misleading, infringing, defamatory, obscene, or harmful. We may remove or refuse content at any time.
Prohibited Uses
You agree not to use the store for unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, harmful, automated, scraping, security-interfering, impersonation, data-harvesting, or rights-infringing purposes. You may not resell products purchased from the store unless expressly authorized by us.
Third-Party and Affiliate Links
The store may contain links to third-party websites, retailers, social media platforms, authors, illustrators, publishers, affiliate partners, or other resources. Some links may be affiliate links, meaning we may earn compensation if you click or purchase through them. Third-party sites are governed by their own terms and policies.
Electronic Communications
By using the store or providing your email address, you consent to receive electronic communications from us, including order confirmations, shipping notices, service messages, customer service communications, and policy updates. Marketing emails may be sent where you have signed up or where permitted by law, and you may unsubscribe at any time.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The store and all content, products, and services made available through the store are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, except as expressly stated otherwise.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Quarto disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Quarto and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, agents, contractors, licensors, service providers, and business partners will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, business interruption, or loss of goodwill.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or related to the store or any product purchased through the store will not exceed the amount you paid for the product giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Quarto and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, agents, contractors, licensors, service providers, and business partners from claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of your use of the store, violation of these Terms, User Content, or violation of law or third-party rights.
Governing Law and Venue
These Terms and any dispute relating to them, the store, or any purchase through the store will be governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to conflict of law principles, except that applicable consumer protection laws of your state of residence may apply where required by law.
Subject to the arbitration section below, disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts. Unless the parties agree otherwise or AAA rules require otherwise, arbitration proceedings will be conducted in Massachusetts or remotely as permitted by AAA rules.
Arbitration; Class Action Waiver
Please read this section carefully. It affects your legal rights.
Before filing a claim against Quarto, you agree to first contact us at customerservice@quarto.com with a brief description of your claim, your order number if applicable, and the resolution you are seeking. We will try to resolve the dispute informally. If we cannot resolve it within 30 days, either party may proceed as described below.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you and Quarto agree that disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms, the store, your purchase, or your relationship with Quarto will be resolved by binding individual arbitration, rather than in court, except as expressly provided in this section.
Either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court if the claim qualifies. Either party may also seek temporary or preliminary court relief to protect intellectual property, confidential information, security, or unauthorized use of the store.
Disputes relating to actual or alleged infringement or misuse of intellectual property rights, including copyright, trademark, trade dress, trade secret, patent, moral rights, or similar rights, may be brought in the federal courts located in Massachusetts.
The arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules and, where applicable, its Mass Arbitration Supplementary Rules, except as modified by these Terms. Unless the parties agree otherwise or AAA rules require otherwise, the arbitration will take place in Massachusetts or remotely as permitted by AAA rules.
You and Quarto agree that each may bring claims only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, consolidated, private attorney general, or representative proceeding. Unless both parties agree otherwise, the arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person’s claims or preside over any class, collective, consolidated, private attorney general, or representative proceeding.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you and Quarto waive any right to a jury trial for disputes covered by this section.
Arbitration fees will be governed by AAA’s applicable consumer rules. Quarto will pay fees where required by those rules or applicable law.
If 25 or more similar arbitration demands are filed against Quarto by the same or coordinated counsel or are otherwise coordinated, the parties agree that AAA’s Mass Arbitration Supplementary Rules, or similar procedures adopted by the arbitration provider, may apply to promote efficient and fair resolution.
You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by sending written notice to customerservice@quarto.com within 30 days after you first accept these Terms. Your notice must include your name, email address, mailing address, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out of arbitration. Opting out will not affect any other part of these Terms.
Nothing in this section limits rights you may have under applicable consumer protection laws that cannot be waived by contract. If any part of this section is found unenforceable, it will be severed to the extent permitted by law, and the remaining parts will remain in effect. If the class action waiver is found unenforceable for a particular claim, that claim must proceed in court and not in arbitration.
Limitation on Claims
To the fullest extent permitted by law, any claim arising out of or related to these Terms, the store, or any purchase through the store must be filed within one year after the claim arose, unless a longer period is required by applicable law.
Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the store after updated Terms are posted means you accept the updated Terms.
